I've been checking all YouTube postings for instructions on installing a mirror tap for a radar detector but the only ones are for older models. I'm kind of afraid to pull down on the plastic covers over the mirror and then trying to find the correct pins for the positive and negative spots to plug in the mirror tap. Would appreciate if anyone has installed a detector using the mirror taps in a newer A3/S3 and would know what pins to use.

i have not used those wires but i would recommend testing it with a dmm.
that will ensure your able to get the correct wire and not short out anything.

the reason i dont plan on using those as it may draw too much amperage from the accessory you planning on using. it might throw off the module its connected to or overdraw on the small wires. not to say it will but its a chance without really understanding that area. pulling from the fuse box would be safer. on mine, i have also pulled on that plastic cover to see whats there before. i notice now that the part is looser and rattles more. i would have to either buy a new piece or somehow glue that part to keep it from rattling now.

i know this isnt what your looking for but let us know how it goes.

I pulled off the trim pieces around the mirror off (was not that easy) then did use a volt meter and found the 12V switched pins but had a really difficult time getting the mirror tap pins inserted and didn't want to force anything so I put the trim pieces back (took quite some time) and now decided to just run a wire along the headliner, down the door and into the fuse box. You might be right about current draw using the mirror taps so going directly to the fuse box is the safest way I believe. Now, I have to try and locate where the heck the fuse box is.

the fuse boxes are both in the cabin near the drivers foot and one in the engine area. the one you want is the drivers foot area.
youll need to take out the cover under the steering column and the side foot area. some youtub videos will show you how to do it better than me telling you here.

when i did mine i had to prep for dash cams. i plan to upgrade the ones i have now to the next set of dash cams. 2 kits total 6 channel videos from blackvue. ill try to make a review video on that soon. not sure ill concentrate on the diy install as each car is different and also because im do my installs in a totally custom fashion which wont be repeated by 99% of viewers. if i get any views.

in the short case here i added an oem cable from audi to the empty slot of the fuse box. it will then have its own fuse and not be attached to anything else thats running in there. totally OEM as it gets. as my cameras are running off of 3 lithium dashcam batteries and soon to be 6 channels of camera, i must be vigilant on how it wire up my power cables. thats why tapping into the area above the mirror seems iffy to me when i see others do it. not that it hasnt been done before.

I can see why your not going to tap in where the mirror is as that sounds like quite an elaborate setup of your dash cams. I did find the fuse box I will tap into. It's right behind the small storage area on the left site of the steering wheel and there is the switched 12V accessory outlet fuse I will be using then run the wire up the pillar. Thanks for your help and advise.
