Hello, I recently bought a used 2024 Audi RS3 with low miles on, 6000 miles. However starting it in my garage with the engine completely cold pointed out a strange rattle noise, and I don’t really know where it comes from. I’ll leave here a link for a YouTube video that has my exact problem: click here. There also other threads on other forums with my problem, some says that it’s the timing chain slacking, but I don’t really know.

Sounds like it could be either the timing chain tensioner or exhaust valve. But it does sound pretty cool.

Yeah, pretty cool till I receive the mechanic bill lol. When I get home from work I’ll try to start the car and see where the noise comes from. It is really loud, that’s why it didn’t seem to me the classic timing chain slacking noise. I’ll keep you updated, in the meantime does someone seem to recognise this noise?

I’ve confirmed that it is the chain making that noise. I’ve found also other people that has the exact same problem on the Cupra VZ5 (same engine). Most of them would be liquidated by the dealer, affirming that it’s normal behaviour, during the first start oil pressure must build up and during this time it causes the chain to slap. However, all this seems to me such a way to not repair or change the chain tensioner, as it would be a pain only to remove the engine from the car. I’ll contact my dealer to see what they can do, however I am already resigned that they will not fix the problem. I’ll keep you updated.

Why "it would be a pain only to remove the engine from the car"?
You don't need to remove any engine from any car just to repair or replace a chain tensioner!
Why do you claim that?

It's just based on what I read online, I am no expert I might be wrong. Sorry if I already came up to a conclusion in the previous message, but I am a little underwhelmed, dealing with too many problems I didn't see this coming. Tomorrow I'll set an appointment with my dealer, at this point is the only thing that I can do. The car has also extended warranty, we'll see what happens. I'll keep you updated, in the meanwhile every reply or heads-up would be very useful. Thank you everyone.
