I have an Audi S3 that the Audi of Fort Worth dealership put in a transmission because the car wouldn’t shift out of first gear. They purchased a used transmission from LKQ once they installed it and test drove the vehicle it did the exact same thing. Would not shift out of first gear. Dealer says used transmission isn’t communicating with vehicle. Now they wants to put in a New transmission from Audi. Is there any way around this? I’m confused as to why the transmission from LKQ doesn’t work. Please help.

That is odd and seems a little silly that the dealer would assume that two different transmissions would have the same exact problem and it's the fault of the transmission. Seems pretty unlikely to me. Honestly this is my first dsg i've owned so I really have no idea how to fix them. sounds like some sort of control module or sensor to me there are multiple sensors that detect the movement..
Maybe someone else has some idea? Also can you put it in manual mode and shift it yourself?

I can not manually shift vehicle.

The Dealer will have to check the TCU and most likely reprogram the ECU if it doesn't look mechanically wrong. These cars are very sensitive when it comes to the ECU/ Sensors and anything Comp-related.

if the dealer installed it, did you verify if they used ODIS to reprogram the mechatronic unit? this is common procedure that i would assume the dealership would have done. i would still verify it. it should be documented and charged accordingly as well.

This sounds like a similar issue with my car. On 3/4 to full throttle I get a gearbox malfunction between 2-3 gear, doesn’t shift up and goes into limo mode. Changed mechatronics unit and dsg pump but still having issues. I don’t think it’s the gearbox as no clutch slip etc: I just found out that my gearbox is overdue a software update from Audi so that is my next step.

what codes are you getting?
I’m not sure. But the codes have always been the same which indicates the mechatronics unit. Even after it was replaced m. Then replaced the dsg pump. Was all ok for a couple weeks after that but problem appeared again today so I need to take it back to plug computer in.

i had also changed out the mech unit myself. i couldnt program it tho.
what i learned with this change, i had some things that would be a problem and what i needed to do.
being mostly hands on with this i was able to experience the technical aspect.

when changing it out, it seems easier for programming a new unit versus a used mech unit. odis seems to have less issues. issue dont all go away but is lessened.
to note; coding must be done by a place that has connection directly to the odis vw system. some business other than the dealership have paid annual subscription for this as they do a lot of vw systems.

my issue is that once its coded with odis it doesnt like it if you have used some personal home coding tool to do some mods on the car. like obd11 or vcds. it will cause some issues. for me it was my second key. odis couldnt link up my second key (which was working before) properly. i only figured it out once i returned some of the coding mods back to the original. odis matchs what it thinks your original vin options should be for your car then uses the same pattern. but when we change it out the coding doesnt align up right.

now i tell you this long winded story cause if there are other things that doesnt lineup then you might get issues. that might be another thing you can look into as well. was it a used unit or do you have coding you changed. used units also have the previous car's coding. i dont know what needs to be done when recoding it to your car but again its something you can look into.

Thanks for the info. It was anew mech unit fitted and I this it’s was all programmed via odis. I’m just beginning to realise how technical these cars are with this issue. Is it possible that a stage 1 ecu remap could Casue this. Car worked fine for a while. Put a map on it and a week later issue reappeared. I done a bit of research before the map and I haven’t seen anyone complain of gearbox issues. Il book it in with Audi get them to do the software update and check the codes. May be more expensive but I need to get to bottom of it.

agree.

also, i had to take off all tuning from the car. it should wipe all your tunes out. but also it will cause issues with odis to remap the ecu and tcu with them on. from what i was told.
