S3 with a short memory

I've just taken delivery of my new S3 Sportback. I've plugged in an iPod classic through one of the USB ports but every time I turn the car off it forgets which music the iPod was playing last and so when I turn the ignition on again, it reverts to playing music in strict alphabetical order by artist.

Has anyone experienced this problem before and if so, is there a solution, please?

Once you turn off the car, the iPod loses its power and resets itself. Why not just move the mp3 files over to a Micro SD card?
