Repaired my front transfer/bevel box myself after audi wanted £3.5k for a new one, hate the bolt off bolt on replace mentality instead of repairing. Anyway, excluding tools, it cost me less than £200 in parts so thought I would post what I did to repair my 2018 DAZA if anyone else has the urge to save themselves over £3k 😂
RS3 front transfer box service parts list
- [ ] 1x Small taper roller bearing (TRB) SKF BT1-0436 A/O
- [ ] 1 x Medium (TRB) SKF LM 503349/QCL7C
- [ ] 2 x large (TRB) SKF skf 32010 X7Q or Timkin XAA32010X-Y32010X
- [ ] 2 x roller bearing 012409139A
- [ ] 1 x Seal OCP409189B
- [ ] 1 x Seal OCP409529
- [ ] 1 x 1ltr Audi Gear Oil G052145S2 (GL5) 75W-90
- [ ] 1 x Permatex 81182 Gear Oil RTV gasket maker
- [ ] 1 x bearing seperator/puller kit to remove the TRBs
- [ ] 1 x blind hole bearing puller kit to remove the TRB races.
- [ ] Ideally access to a hydraulic press but if not freeze the bearing races and the Bevel gears to shrink them and warm up the new TRBs and the transfer case to expand them to allow ease of fitment.
- [ ] I used the CTS 8V RS3 & 8S TTRS Driveshaft Removal/Installation Tool direct from CTS in Canada, took a week for the tool to arrive.
- [ ] Process - Get car in the air, remove exhaust, remove front subrame, remove transfer/bevel box, watch Gillspeed racings 1 min youtube vid on the teardown https://youtube.com/shorts/BGYNuxOeVmk?si=PUGAkBqjQWLFFVm9 , service bevel box and refitting is reverse order of above. Be careful with the main propshaft, they break real easy and are expensive to replace
